More Unique Glass Arts
After writing that last blog I started to remember all the other glass artists I'd seen making unique glass art pieces. I don't want to leave any stone unturned in my glass explorations, so let's see what else is out there!
Glass Masks
Kit Paulson is not the only person to make handmade glass masks, but hers are by far the most elaborate, at least that I've seen. I like her work because it is so clearly her own vision. Ignoring questions like "who is going to buy this?" or "how am I going to make money from this?" each work is a true labor of love; I admire how she's stayed true to her own vision.
Madeline Rile Smith returns to my blog once more, as she's also made her own masks. In contrast to Kit Paulson's style, which is elaborate and in my opinion a little spooky, Smith's pieces are fun and whimsical.
Glass Gloves
Kit Paulson also makes some very nice gloves! But she's not the only artist to do so. JebbGlass also made an entire glove out of glass chain mail. This means he made thousands of glass links by hand all joined together to form a glove. It's hard to imagine how much work that must have been!
Glass Guitars
An artist by the name of Nick Eggert, with the nom de guerre GlassicalCreations is doing some really unique work with stringed instruments. He's made glass bodies for guitars, ukeleles, even violins! I'd love to see one of these pieces in person, I'm really curious how the glass would change the sound of the instrument.
In case you can't tell I love stuff like this; I'm a bit scared to do it myself! To invest hundreds of hours into something that is so unique and expensive means it would be very hard to sell. Not just that but in glass, at any moment, the piece you are working on can crack. And most cracks aren't fixable, which could mean starting the whole thing over again from scratch. You've gotta be truly brave to embark on such a quest!
